One Step Away from the New ISO 9001
The ISO 9001 standard has progressed to the Final Draft International Standard (FDIS) stage. The latest draft, ISO/FDIS 9001:2008 Quality management systems- Requirements, is available in the ASQ store. The final published standard is expected in October 2008.
New Standard On Management Systems Auditing Released
The recently published ANSI/ISO/ASQ QE19011S-2008 is an American National Standard (ANS) that contains the ISO standard along with supplementary guidance. Examples on specific topics are provided in the form of practical help in boxed text.
Gary L. Johnson and Thea D. Dunmire presented a related paper at the 2007 World Conference on Quality and Improvement: Expanding the Scope of Management Systems Auditing Standards.
Uganda and Gambia: Two Ways of Approaching Technical Participation
The United States is a full member in the International Electrotechnical Commission and a participating member in 153 IEC technical committees. As this IEC article illustrates, developing countries can participate in standards development through the IEC Affiliate Country Programme. ASQ is involved in development of IEC standards through its work as the ANSI-appointed administrator to the U.S. Technical Advisory Group to IEC Technical Committee 56 on Dependability.
