ASQ Education Conference Explores New Concepts for 21st Century

Nation’s K-12 educators meet in St. Louis to learn, share innovative approaches to improve leadership, engage staff, tap student potential

Milwaukee, Wis., August 14, 2007 – How can education leaders today ensure that schools meet their full potential – and also meet the needs of the business community – in a changing landscape? The 15th annual National Quality Education Conference (NQEC) explores solutions to these challenges through this year’s conference theme: “Building Better Schools: Leadership, Teamwork, and Learning.” NQEC will be held November 11-13 at the Millennium Hotel, St. Louis, Mo.

Alex Pattakos, Ph.D., a pioneer in transformational thinking, will demonstrate how educators can find deeper meaning in their work and become catalysts for change through his keynote presentation “No Person Left Behind: Leading With and To Meaning.” Pattakos, a principal with the Innovation Group, is also author of Prisoners of Our Thoughts, a life-changing book that applies the wisdom of world-renown psychiatrist Viktor Frankl to contemporary life and work situations.

In addition to Pattakos’ presentation at 8:00 a.m., Sunday, November 11, two other keynote speakers will address the attendees:

  • Creating Learning Environments for 21st Century Kids: Education in the New Digital Landscape – Monday, November 12, 2:15 p.m. – Ian Jukes, Director of the Info Savvy Group, will explore learning attributes of the high-tech student and provide new strategies for teaching this new digital generation.
  • Path to Educational Greatness – Tuesday, November 13, 11:30 a.m. – Cyndi Laurin, Ph.D., author of Catch! A Fishmonger’s Guide to Greatness and founder of Guide to Greatness, LLCpresents a series of creative ways that teachers can help inspire greatness in their students.

This year’s NQEC features a wide variety of educational experts and guests from school systems across the United States. They’ll take part in more than 40 in-depth sessions, five half-day workshops and a new feature called Open Space, an innovative networking opportunity that enables conference attendees to identify any issue connected to NQEC’s theme and start an informal dialog of learning and sharing. For more information on Open Space, visit http://nqec.asq.org. In addition, NQEC is proud to announce two other new conference events:

Business Leader/Educator Roundtable

NQEC will host an interactive discussion Monday, November 12, with St. Louis-based business leaders, educators and city officials. Leaders will explore how educators and business leaders can work more effectively together to better prepare students with the 21st century skills necessary to succeed in tomorrow’s world.

“In today’s challenging economy, it’s more crucial than ever for us to ensure a quality education that enables all students to become productive and contributing members of their communities, “ said Tom Mosgaller, ASQ past president who will serve as the roundtable moderator/facilitator.

New Team Excellence in Education Competition

NQEC will also host its first annual Team Excellence for Education Award to showcase the nation’s most outstanding education improvement efforts. Teams from higher education and K-12 school districts around the country will participate in this unique competition. Live presentations and an awards ceremony will take place during the conference. NQEC is the nation’s leading conference for teachers, administrators, and support personnel to learn about the use of quality tools and concepts that can be applied to improve U.S. schools. It is an outstanding opportunity for educators seeking awareness, commitment, refinement and measurable progress in applying continuous improvement approaches and processes. In addition to numerous special sessions for K-12, it is also a venue for educators and administrators to interact with their peers from school districts across the country and around the world.
