ANAB Names Knappenberger President
Former Board Chair Has Extensive Industry Experience
Milwaukee, Wisconsin – The ANSI-ASQ National Accreditation Board (ANAB) has named John J. Knappenberger as its incoming President. Knappenberger will oversee ANAB accreditation programs for management systems and testing and calibration laboratories.
As ANAB president, Knappenberger will be the most senior staff officer, responsible for day-to-day operations, strengthening relationships with stakeholders, and responding to market demands for conformity assessment services. Knappenberger will report to the Chair of ANAB’s Board of Directors, and work with the Board to implement ANAB’s strategic plan.
“John’s wealth of executive management experience will be invaluable to ANAB’s continued growth,” Connie Conboy, Chair of ANAB’s Board, said. “His personal skills and strong customer focus will allow him to work effectively with ANAB’s many stakeholders. His experience in global markets will serve us well as he continues our efforts to enhance acceptance and recognition of ANAB programs nationally and worldwide.”
Knappenberger comes to ANAB from Dura Automotive Systems, Inc., in Rochester Hills, MI, where he served as Vice President, Information Technology and Administration since March 1999. He joined Dura in December 1995 as Vice President of Quality and Materials. Before joining Dura, Knappenberger was Director of Quality for Carrier Corporation's North American Operations from February 1992. Prior to that, he was employed by TRW Inc. He is a graduate of Muhlenberg College in Allentown, PA.
Knappenberger served on the board of directors of the Registrar Accreditation Board (RAB), the predecessor of ANAB. He was named to RAB’s board in February 1994 and elected chair in April 1996. When RAB was dissolved and the ANSI-ASQ National Accreditation Board was formed, he became chair of the board or directors of RABQSA International, which was also formed following the dissolution of RAB.
During the remainder of 2007, Knappenberger will work closely with Robert H. King, ANAB’s outgoing President, to ensure a smooth transition. King had announced his intention earlier this year to retire at the end of 2007.
The ANSI-ASQ National Accreditation Board (ANAB) is the U.S. accreditation body for management systems. ANAB accredits certification bodies (CBs) for ISO 9001 quality management systems (QMS), ISO 14001 environmental management systems (EMS), ISO 27001 information security management systems, ISO 22000 food safety management systems, ANSI/AIHA Z10 occupational health and safety management systems, and numerous industry-specific requirements.
ANAB is a member of the International Accreditation Forum and a signatory of the IAF multilateral cooperative arrangements (MLAs) for QMS and EMS. Through the IAF MLAs and the Multilateral Cooperative Accreditation Arrangement, ANAB cooperates with other accreditation bodies around the world to provide value to its accredited CBs and their clients, ensuring that accredited certificates are recognized nationally and internationally. The global conformity assessment system ensures confidence and reduces risk for customers engaging in trade worldwide.
ANAB recently expanded its conformity assessment services to include accreditation of testing and calibration laboratories through its acquisition of Assured Calibration and Laboratory Accreditation Select Services, LLC (ACLASS). ACLASS is internationally recognized by ILAC, APLAC, and IAAC through the signing of multilateral recognition arrangements.
