ASQ Board of Directors Advances 17 to Fellow Member Status

On November 9, 2006, the board of directors of the American Society for Quality elected the following Fellows of the Society in recognition of their significant contributions to quality. 

Thomas Andrew Britt - For significant contributions in the application of quality tools in the rubber manufacturing industry; for establishing and improving process capability of older equipment; for implementing control systems and streamlining data collection of new technologies; and for active ASQ participation in five states.

Lev M. Klyatis - For more than 30 years of experience in accelerated testing and reliability development and implementation; for publishing original methodologies in accelerated quality and reliability solutions in three books and more than 200 other publications; and for serving as a speaker at ten ASQ and SAE congresses and five international symposiums.

Ramesh Konda - For outstanding contributions in the field of quality assurance and implementation of ISO 9000; for serving as an examiner for the Michigan State Quality Award and the Nebraska State Edgerton Quality Award; for outstanding leadership in ASQ Nebraska Section 1302 and Silicon Valley Section 613; and for meritorious achievements in the automotive, electronic and general manufacturing industries.

Edwin G. Landauer - For service to ASQ Portland Section 607 and the Society as a leader, innovator, creator and provider of exemplary thinking and education; and for supporting the universal adoption of the principles and practices of quality that provide economic viability.

William A. Levinson - For exemplary service to ASQ Northeastern Pennsylvania Section 209; for developing and maintaining the Section Web site; for serving as an instructor for Section-sponsored certification study courses; for presenting numerous workshops for Section membership; and for publishing five books to date.

Sandford Liebesman -  For a distinguished career and continuing leadership in the Electronic and Communications Division and the Sarbanes-Oxley Community; for serving as a frequent chair and respected leader of numerous conferences and workshops; and for achievements as a prolific writer and substantive presenter on a breadth of standards, quality, reliability and related issues.

David A. Manalan - For significant contributions to ASQ and the Biomedical Division, especially for work to improve communications to members; for dedicated service and leadership in Section, Division, discussion group and community; and for outstanding contributions in the integration of quality system processes through work with industries regulated by the FDA, EPA and similar agencies.

William Q. Meeker Jr. - For significant contributions to the field of reliability analysis; for making statistical analyses accessible to practitioners; and for major editorial service to the Society.

Joseph J. Pignatiello Jr. - For outstanding leadership in the field of quality engineering as an educator; for innovative and significant research contributions in statistical process control and experimental design; and for distinguished editorial service to the quality profession.

Sheila R. Poling - For dedicated service to the quality profession since 1983 via senior leadership or managing partner positions in four National/Internationally recognized consulting firms and co-authoring five books covering SPC, customer-focused quality, Six Sigma, Lean Enterprises, and continual improvement skills case studies.

Gordon A. Skattum -  For exemplary service to the quality profession for more than 30 years; for advancing one of the first community college QA programs to a state-of-the-art curriculum by including metrology, Six Sigma and the philosophy of continuous improvement; and for serving as one of only two experts outside of the automotive industry to participate in writing the third edition of the MSA.

Jim L. Smith - For outstanding service in the quality profession; for educating individuals and groups on quality topics at both the Section level and within his company; for contributing to his company's world class excellence; and for his outstanding leadership role in creating quality awareness and services for the ASQ Heart of Illinois Section 1211.

Larry R. Smith - For contributions in the field of TRIZ knowledge and applications; for promoting the field of quality around the world through various projects, special events, educational endeavors and organizations; for the development of a true mastery in the field of quality; and for his willingness to share his knowledge with others.

Manly P. Thornton - For three decades of distinguished service to the Society as an instructor, speaker, mentor, volunteer and practitioner; and for ongoing development and implementation of practical quality applications in the medical device field and other areas. 

Aaron WK Tong –  For promotion of quality activities in Hong Kong and China; for longtime service to the Hong Kong Society for Quality; and for setting an example of what a quality professional is.

Willy W. Vandenbrande - For contributions to the Flemish Quality Magazine De kwaliteitskrant; for teaching TQM to exchange students in the European Union Erasmus program; for outstanding contributions to the ASQ International Chapter as Belgian Country Councilor; and for his inspiring columns, articles and lectures.

Jeffrey C. Worthington - For continued commitment to the quality profession and leadership in innovative application of quality management principles to the quality of data and information content, representation, and distribution.
