NEW BLOG! Quality for Life
Blogger: Kay Kendall
"I know that many of my friends in quality are active in the support of community charities, as am I. I think a lot of us view this work as just an extension of the desire we have to improve things...I was humbled last year to realize that I failed to apply a very fundamental quality principle to many of my community efforts-listening to the voice of the customer."

Statistical Thinking to Improve Quality
Blogger: Gordon Clark
"This posting describes the Multi-Vari Chart which is a tool for use in the seventh step, Study Cause and Effect, of the Hoerl-Snee Process Improvement Strategy…The Multi-Vari Chart graphically shows variation of a quality characteristic for multiple factors. The purpose of the chart is to permit identification of the factor or factors having the greatest effect on variability."

Efficiency in Healthcare
Blogger: Dr. Robert Burney
“The term groupthink is blamed on Janis Irving and his 1972 book, Victims of Groupthink, and it's one of the reasons groups come up with totally wrong decisions…(This) thought came to mind on reading the American Board of Internal Medicine Foundation's report, 'Opinion Leader Perspectives on Health Care Efficiency.' Although the contributors came from diverse groups, they must be reading the same articles, sitting on the same panels, and speaking at each other’s meetings. They all agree, and they're not always right."

Quality in Education
Bloggers: Paul Hayes and Becky Martin
“Whether it's signing up for professional development classes, creating the data folder pages your students will use next year, or tweaking your Excel spreadsheets to make your data collection more efficient, a little time spent planning now will save time in the long run. Being prepared for the start of the school year by having systems in place will make for much lighter work when it comes to the unavoidable 'first day of school' tasks at the start of a new year."

Financial Services Six Sigma
Bloggers: Sheila Shaffie and Shahbaz Shahbazi
"Recently I left a meeting feeling frustrated, my only solace being that I wasn’t the only one feeling uneasy. For what felt like the millionth time, issues around communication were discussed during our team meeting. We seem to keep going around in circles when it comes to the communication plan: challenges never seem to get resolved. At the start of the project we put together what seemed to be a robust plan…But all of this didn’t seem to be enough."

Government Quality
Blogger: Bruce Waltuck
"What can we say about the optimal size of government? There are current candidates as of this posting, who have quite different views on this issue. What products and services are best delivered by government? What values will influence our thinking and actions, as we seek the elusive ‘government that works better, and costs less?’"
